SAFE & FUN

A Safe Environment for your Child

The Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA) is dedicated to player safety and providing young athletes with the opportunity to best develop and acquire skills, and keeping as many players playing the game as possible. This includes not only on-ice safety but also off-ice safety in any part of our hockey programming.

The OMHA works together with leading organizations, including Hockey Canada and Respect Group, to develop policies and programs that are intended to protect our participants and create a safe and enjoyable environment.

On the Ice

The OMHA has long been regarded as a leader in an effort to enhance player safety. The OMHA Trainers Program has spearheaded numerous initiatives aimed at providing the safest possible player environment.

The OMHA and Hockey Canada Officiating Programs have strict standard of rules enforcement, allowing for improved skill development and a more positive environment for all participants. This standard results in greater emphasis on skating, puck possession and the proper use of body contact. This standard is diligently reviewed and also includes equipment policies.

Body Checking

Body Checking is not permitted at all age-groups and levels of hockey. Body Checking is only permitted from U14 and older at the Representative level only.  This ensures young and beginner players the opportunity to focus the fundamental skills of skating, puck control, passing and shooting.

Off the Ice

The OMHA has a zero-tolerance for misconduct and abuse and is committed to providing an environment in which all individuals are treated with respect. Members and participants of the OMHA shall conduct themselves at all times in a manner consistent with the values of the OMHA which include fairness, integrity and mutual respect.
