Three teams selected every month of the season

The OMHA and CoachThem are excited to reveal the winners of the OMHA Team of the Month for February!

The program is aimed at recognizing minor hockey teams in the province making a positive impact on the ice and in their communities who demonstrate all of the positives that hockey has to offer.

This award isn’t about going undefeated during the month or scoring hat tricks, it’s about stories of teamwork and perseverance, leadership and being good role models in and around the rink. We want to hear the stories of food drives, helping a teammate, making new friends and having fun!

Three teams will be selected every month, with each coach receiving a CoachThem prize pack.

West Lorne U13 D: As a team we wanted to do something around Christmas to give back to the local community and help those in need at Christmas. Our team held our first ever teddy bear toss and the players did a great job trying to get as many family members and friends to come out to the game and support our idea. We were able to collect 117 brand new teddy bears to donate to a local charity in West Lorne to be given out to children that may not have gotten a Christmas gift. The players were extremely excited to know they could make a small impact in a child’s life at what can be a difficult time and the local community did such an amazing job helping us accomplish our first teddy bear toss.

Orangeville U9 MD: We have many new players this year on the team and the kids needed the opportunity to come together. They had a night of team building where they worked together and against each other getting to know each other and having fun. The next day they went around our local community collecting empty cans and bottles, raising funds for the Toys for Tots Charity. The kids demonstrated teamwork, collaboration and manners while collecting over $1000 worth of empties. They are learning about giving back to their community and are doing so with smiles on their faces. On the ice they are starting to gel as a team and have a jamboree later this month which will continue to solidify their new friendships.

Arran-Elderslie U15 D: The U15 Rep IceDogs are raising awareness for Mental Health Stigma. They partnered with the Canadian Mental Health Association (Grey-Bruce) and the Owen Sound Attack to break the stigma that mental health challenges are a weakness. They are sporting alternate jerseys with the Green Ribbon for Mental Health Awareness, hosting a Break the Stigma later this month at one of their home games and working the CMHA night at the Owen Sound Attack game.

They have also been asked to help out at the AEMHA IceDog U18 Charity Game vs Local First Responders by helping with a Food Drive for the local Food Bank.

They also helped fill the Emergency Vehicle with Food and Toys during the Christmas Season.
