Three teams selected every month of the season

The OMHA and CoachThem are excited to reveal the winners of the OMHA Team of the Month for December!

The program is aimed at recognizing minor hockey teams in the province making a positive impact on the ice and in their communities who demonstrate all of the positives that hockey has to offer.

This award isn’t about going undefeated during the month or scoring hat tricks, it’s about stories of teamwork and perseverance, leadership and being good role models in and around the rink. We want to hear the stories of food drives, helping a teammate, making new friends and having fun!

Three teams will be selected every month, with each coach receiving a CoachThem prize pack.

Midland U9 MD: Our U9MD Team consists of a great group of kids working hard to develop their hockey skills while having fun! They're a great group of kids building friendships that will last a lifetime! These kids are always positive and supportive of each other. We ran a TAG Day fundraiser the beginning of November and the team decided to donate a portion of their proceeds to the Legion - Midland Branch for a poppy donation. Great team effort by all and a great contribution to our community! We look forward to watching these young athletes grow, develop and continue to be positive members of our community!

Milton U11 BB: Stepped up to assist Pack a Bag for a friend foundation. This registered Charity in Halton Region helps infants, children, and youth at Christmas by providing high quality backpacks with essentials (Hats, Gloves, Socks, PJ’s a Book, and a Toy as well as other items). The boys rallied the community together by putting up flyers in various stores and local arenas. They also had the assistance of promoting on social media as well as reaching out to all the Winterhawks as well as opposing teams since some of their communities benefit from the charity. They hosted two fundraising events. The first one was with the assistance of the Milton Menace allowing the boys to collect monetary donations and Toys and PJ’s at they home game. The second one was prior to their home game where they filled a hockey net. They also canvased the arena for monetary donations. For their efforts they raised and donated just over 200 PJ's, $500, lots of toys, stuffed animals & books! They helped spread awareness to the cause and got the community involved and other teams.

Lindsay U11 Teal Local League: We have amazing coaches that bring the best out of all of our kids. We range in levels of experience and even our first time skaters are into the “action”. Our team works together and boosts one another morale and confidence. They have become a family in such a short time playing together. “No one gets left behind”. Our team strives to be professional when away and shows the other communities that LMHA supports and we are putting our best face forward at all times. We participate in fundraising for our league as well as in food drives, toy drives and other community supports. Through the ups and downs of hockey these kids are there for one another. These kids are making memories and connections that will last them their whole life. friendships kindled that can last as well. They are supported by a great coaching bench (Dustin Belton, Matt De Vries, Ken Pauze, Brian Moxley and Jodi Cook). Even when we lose a game the kids are pulled up and praised for their performance and skills demonstrated during the games. I am looking forward to see what this year will bring in growth in skills, and confidence as a team and individually.
