ETA and SCTA are now part of one unified league

The OMHA, through its AAA Committee, is consistently engaged in a comprehensive review of AAA hockey. Through this, there have been several recent changes through analysis of player registration trends, competitive history, population and demographic shifts and ice capacity.

As part of these changes, we are excited to announce the new OMHA AAA Hockey League. The new league will consist of two conferences - OMHA East and OMHA West, formerly the ETA and SCTA.

The goal is to provide a unified set of policies, rules of operation and a unified marketing plan for OMHA AAA. A new OMHA AAA League Executive is being formed with representation from both former leagues, and a new website and logo are set to launch. We look forward with the opportunities for competition, for growth and development this unified group will bring to OMHA AAA players.

Teams will play regular season games within their own conference. Both conferences will play under a uniform set of rules, such as period lengths, and a consistent schedule.

There will also be an exciting ‘Crossover Weekend’ (December 15-17) for the U14 and above ages, where all teams will converge under one roof and play games against the other conference as part of the regular season schedule that will count in the standings.

As minor hockey continues to evolve, it is necessary to provide the highest quality programming possible for all AAA-calibre players and placing others in more appropriate levels of competition. This includes the most notable changes over the last two seasons, with the welcoming of the Hamilton Steel, the creation of the Credit River Capitals and the dissolution of the Richmond Hill Coyotes.

“The OMHA strives and takes pride in ensuring the finest quality of hockey programming and by joining these two AAA leagues we will ensure the viability and competitiveness of AAA hockey for years to come,” said Craig Lane, OMHA President

“This is an exciting time for AAA hockey in the OMHA and I am proud to be a part of it. This new OMHA AAA League is the result of countless hours of work from both the East and West executives, along with the OMHA AAA Committee. We are confident that all AAA players will benefit from this new programming,” said Daryl Holmes, Vice President - West.

“We are looking forward to this new league structure in OMHA AAA hockey programming. We believe this new unified league provides a consistency across the board at all age groups and will help us showcase all our players effectively. We can’t wait for puck drop,” said Pat Colucci, Vice President - East.
