In operation since 1995, the school program now encompasses seven (7) locations across the OMHA:
WEST - Windsor, Strathroy and Clinton
CENTRAL - Milton, Barrie and New Hamburg
EAST - Oshawa
The extremely successful and popular school format provides NEW officials with methods and procedures of officiating in both the 2 and 3 official systems. They will also instruct uniform interpretation of the rules while teaching effective communication strategies and techniques. By completing the weekend, students will acquire officiating skills and rule knowledge while completing OMHA and Hockey Canada certification requirements for the upcoming season.
The weekend will include classroom instructional sessions, on-ice training sessions and a written certification exam.
The schools have grown to the point where they now attract officials from across the province.
The Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA) in partnership with Force Sports, will once again host the OMHA Referee Schools to train and mentor new officials. With the introduction of a new format this year, there will be four schools:
