The Ontario Minor Hockey Association has released the seventh edition of the Minor Midget & Midget AAA Top 5 Rankings Powered by Under Armour for the 2016-2017 regular season. These rankings will be released on a bi-weekly schedule.

With one of the AAA Showcases now in the books, teams are gearing up for the second half of the season. Here were the sixth edition of the rankings.

Minor Midget AAA Rankings

5 York-Simcoe Express (16-3-0) 5 3

Players to Watch

Mitchell Russell (Barrie Jr. Colts) - One of the toughest players to play against in the OMHA. Russell will win battles all over the ice, he's not scared to finish any and all checks and always carries a presence on the ice. He's loaded with speed, skill and toughness and will be one to watch all year.

Braydon Guy (Brampton 45's) - A very solid two-way game and he has already put up 23 points in just 20 games this year. When you watch Guy you see a player who brings it every night but if you pay close attention, he also does a lot of the little things that go unnoticed by some but help his team win games. Guy has had a great start to the season.

Midget AAA Rankings

Rank Team Previous Rank Weeks Ranked
1 Markham Waxers (15-2-2) 1 6
2 Oakville Rangers (20-0-1) 2 7
3 Clarington Toros (15-3-2) 4 7
4 Central Ontario Wolves (13-4-3) 3 6
5 Ajax-Pickering Raiders (11-3-4) 5 3

Players to Watch

Trent Verbeek (Grey-Bruce Highlanders) - Verbeek has been the catalyst to the Highlanders offence this season. He's coming off of a two week span where the Highlanders played four of their five games against the top three teams in the SCTA and was needed in a big way. Verbeek did not disappoint, notching points in four straight games and setting the pace for the Highlanders to be in every game. Watch for Verbeek to put on a great performance in the SCTA All-Star game in a couple of weeks and hope he can continue this streak into the new year.

David Bowen (Markham Waxers) - What a start to the 2016-2017 season for Bowen. The Waxers netminder has been influential in making sure they are at the top of the rankings each week and his play has been nothing short of incredible. Bowen has an impressive 10 wins so far, but what makes it more remarkable is that half of those have come by way of the shutout.  Bowen has set the bar very high for goaltending in the ETA and will look to continue the Waxers reign at the top heading into the final stretch of the season.
