Positive parenting on your child's hockey journey

The Ontario Minor Hockey Association is proud to deliver the Fall edition of Hometown Hockey Magazine in a digital version. The magazine is now available on OMHA.net.

With a new hockey season now underway, everyone is starting to settle back into their routines of balancing hockey, school and family. Trying to make sure everyone gets to where they need to be on time and prepared can be stressful for parents and the Fall edition provides parents with positive tips on how to deal with some of these hectic moments.

The feature story is for hockey parents and what it means to be the positive role model that your child wants you to be. Sometimes it can be easy to get wrapped up in the intensity of the game but it’s important to remember that your child is always watching what you do and it can have either a positive or negative effect on them. Kids want you to enjoy the experience with them, not trying to make it your own.

Hockey is a great sport to teach life skills like respect, friendship and the importance of community. Former General Manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs Gord Stellick talks about his experiences seeing players grow from rookies into veterans and the lessons he learned along the way.

Some solutions to time management problems are also provided in this Hometown Hockey digital magazine. Topics like how to boost sleep and planning meals ahead of time are highlighted. How to save some money during hockey season is also featured.

Other sections include creating teachable moments for players as well as the do’s and don’ts for hockey parents.
