The Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA) has announced the amalgamation of Ajax Minor Hockey, Pickering Minor Hockey, and Ajax-Pickering Raiders into a AAA Association called the Ajax Pickering Minor Hockey Association.
The new Ajax Pickering Minor Hockey Association will keep the name of the Raiders. Its AAA teams will play in the Eastern AAA (ETA) League, while the AA, A and BB representative teams will play in the Lakeshore League. The Association will continue to offer house league programming.
All three organizations have a long, celebrated history in the OMHA as the Knights, Panthers and Raiders. This new Association helps players play in their hometown while ensuring competitive teams operating under one umbrella.
“Change is never easy and it is always sad when we must say goodbye to something that has been part of our lives for so many years. However, Ajax, Pickering and the Ajax-Pickering Raiders all have such a rich history and combining them all into a new centre will help create more competitive teams at all levels of hockey within the communities. This is a big change designed with the best interests of our players in mind. I am looking forward to the future and what it holds for Pickering and Ajax as one,” said Leo Nat, Executive Director and General Manager of the new Ajax Pickering Minor Hockey Association.
Nat says the amalgamation will ensure a positive hockey experience for those in the new Ajax Pickering Minor Hockey Association.
Those who are members of any of these three Associations should have received information on upcoming tryouts and registration.
