The OMHA is pleased to announce details regarding the 5th Annual Coaches Symposium Series.

This spring, the OMHA will deliver two one-day Coaches Symposiums each with a specific focus: Practice Planning on May 4th in Flamborough, ON and Skating, to be held in Hamilton, ON on May 24th.

Each symposium will engage the participant through classroom and on-ice sessions providing coaches with specific and practical information that they can implement with their respective teams. In addition, each symposium features prominent guest speakers discussing their own area of expertise.

Participation at each symposium carries a value 20 credit points which can be used towards coach certification renewal through the OMHA’s Continuing Education Program (CEP) for coaches.

2014 Coaches Symposium #2 | Skating

May 24, 2014
Mohawk 4 Ice Centre – Hamilton, ON

Guest Presenters: Dr. Kelly Lockwood & Tiana Moe

“The ability to skate efficiently and effectively is the foundation for all other hockey skills”. To put it another way, skating is to hockey what running is to soccer.  A player’s skating ability is directly related to their performance in puck control, shooting and checking. Because of this fundamental connection, any time spent on improving a player’s skating abilities is an investment that will improve all aspects of their game. Topics include Balance and Agility, Edge Control, Starting / Stopping, Forward Skating, Backward Skating and Turning & Crossovers
