OHL Announces Details for Inaugural Coaches Conference

The Ontario Hockey League today announced details for the inaugural OHL Coaches Conference scheduled for June 6-7 at UOIT in Oshawa, ON.

The conference will be split into two parts including an OHL Member Team program held on Friday June 6, followed by a Minor Hockey Coaches Program hosted on Saturday June 7.

“The OHL is excited to introduce the Coaches Conference this season as a program that will provide additional information and development for coaches across the Province,” said Joe Birch, OHL Senior Director of Hockey Development and Special Events.  “The program provides a great opportunity for OHL coaches to connect with professionals from the NHL and Hockey Canada to share best practices, as well as minor hockey coaches to learn from OHL, NHL, and Hockey Canada personnel in an interactive professional development day that will provide them with an opportunity to grow as a coach.”

The OHL Member Team Program will include topic areas such as Sports Psychology focusing on today’s athlete, the use of Technology and Video, as well as specialized topics for OHL Member Team Goaltender Coaches along with Team Strength and Conditioning Coaches.  The Minor Hockey Coaches Program will include topic areas such as Power Play and Penalty Kill, Neutral Zone Principles and Systems in addition to Training and Nutrition, the use of Technology and Video, and Sports Psychology focusing on today’s athlete.

The Minor Hockey Coaches Program will be led by OHL Head Coaches, NHL personnel, along with OHL Nutritional and Training Consultant Mark Fitzgerald.

The program is open to any coach registered within the OHF, HEO, or HNO, coaching Pee-Wee ‘AAA’, Minor Bantam and Major Bantam ‘AE to AAA’, Minor Midget to Midget ‘AE to AAA’ as well as any coach registered with the OHA.  A total of 90 spots are available at a program cost of $200 that includes an OHL welcome gift, all printed materials, and lunch.  The one day program will also provide all participating coaches with re-certification credits towards their Hockey Canada certification.
