The Ontario Minor Hockey Association has released the fifth edition of the Minor Midget and Midget AAA Top 5 Rankings powered by Under Armour for the 2018-2019 regular season. These rankings will be released on a bi-weekly schedule.

Teams are still battling for position within the top five and everything is still up for grabs. There's plenty of hockey left to be played and the dust isn't close to being settled.

A pair of wins is enough to keep the Wildcats in the top spot and the North Stars stay right on their tail with three wins of their own. The Express jump back into third place over the Predators but a showdown between the two clubs looms in two weeks which could be a statement game for both. A quiet week for the Hurricanes keeps them in the top five.

Players to Watch

Kaleb Nelson (York-Simcoe Express) - For opposing teams, Nelson is not fun to play against. He has a very good explosive burst from stand-still, getting to top speed quickly. His edges and footwork allow him to be shifty as he carries the puck and creates room in the offensive zone. He uses time and space effectively, setting up teammates or using his quick release. On top of this, Nelson can also play a gritty game, holding his own net front or along the boards while getting under the skin of those who try to defend him.

Ben Felicetti (Burlington Eagles) - Felicetti loves having the puck on his stick and for good measure. He is one of the most dynamic and offensively gifted players in the league this year. He is dangerous off the rush, allowing his quick hands and agility take over when he's at top speed. Felicetti often beats defenders 1-on-1 and he is one of the best at using his quick release while in full-stride. He is always looking to strike offensively and often exploits turnovers and mistakes.

There is still plenty of movement in the top five as there are lots of strong teams looking to gain a foothold. Look for the trend to continue throughout the season as the top teams show no signs of slowing down.

Players to Watch

Colin Elliott (Central Ontario Wolves) - Elliott is the power forward that most teams are looking for on their roster. He has great size, skates very well and is a true throwback style of player. Elliott is physical and loves to play with the puck below the goalline. He is someone who takes pride in his defensive play and has no problem playing a simple game in order to help promote team success. Elliott has been a staple on a potent Wolves powerplay and his net front presence makes him a constant option in front of the net.

Ethan Haynes (Halton Hurricanes) - When you think about speed and skill in Midget AAA hockey, players like Haynes are the ones that come to mind and you love to see succeed. Haynes is a shifty, speedy forward who loves to create problems for the opposition all over the ice. He has no problem creating for his linemates, or taking the puck and driving the net to try and ignite the Hurricanes offence. Haynes sees the ice with exceptional vision and has shown a strong ability to predict where pucks are going to be even before they get there.
