The Ontario Minor Hockey Association has released the first edition of the Minor Midget and Midget AAA Top 5 Rankings powered by Under Armour for the 2018-2019 regular season. These rankings will be released on a bi-weekly schedule.

With a new season now kicking off, here's where teams stand after the opening weeks of play.

Minor Midget AAA Rankings

The defending champion Wildcats are off to a hot start and look to have carried the momentum over from last season. The Express, North Stars and Hurricanes are all undefeated in their first handful of games and are right on Whitby's tail. There is still plenty to be decided.

Players to Watch

Owen Brady (Whitby Wildcats) - Brady is a defender that has both size and skill. He is a strong skater who is smooth in transition. This allows him to keep solid gaps on forecheckers and is tough to beat wide. When Brady has the puck, he can slow the game down and make timely reads, allowing him to find the correct outlet. His passes are hard and crisp, and Brady will follow up the play so that he can be another attacking option. Brady is a presence on the ice and will log a lot of minutes for Whitby this year.

Jacob Maillet (Hamilton Jr. Bulldogs) - A two-way forward that does all the small things necessary to win. His feet never stop moving, creating havoc in the offensive end for opposing defencemen and also tracks the puck very well on the back check. Maillet finds himself on the right side of the puck and is a responsible player. When Maillet gets the puck, he shows his creativity well. A heads-up player, always looking for his linemates and shows he is able to make skilled passes through small windows. If no option is open, he is a very good open ice skater, allowing him to gain the offensive blue-line with ease and with a purpose. Maillet will be depended on to keep a one-goal lead or help try and score if one-goal down.

Midget AAA Rankings

The Toros head into the season with another strong group while the Waxers are a perennial contender in this age group. It is too early to tell how the season will shake out but these are teams to keep an eye on.

Players to Watch

Dylan Abbamont (Burlington Eagles) - The Eagles forward has proven to be one of the toughest players to play against over his past two seasons. While he is not the biggest player, Abbamont makes up for that with a relentless work ethic and a hard nosed brand of hockey. Abbamont is a catalyst for an Eagles offence that is looking to do good things this season and contend for an SCTA title.

Kyle Glenney (Niagara North Stars) - Glenney has opened the season with a hot start for the North Stars and will need to continue to lead a team with a lot of new faces. Glenney possesses a unique talent for finding the open area in front of the opponents’ goal and the puck seems to always find a way to his stick. Look for Glenney to have a strong season and lead a very powerful North Stars offence.
