Coaches who are looking for Professional Development (PD) points towards their Certification Maintenance have a unique opportunity to earn them ahead of the upcoming season.

Our friends at The Coaches Site are hosting their annual Hockey Coaches Conference taking place in Toronto from July 20-21. Coaches who attend the conference can earn three Professional Development points a day towards their certification. The conference provides a platform for professional coaches and human performance experts to share their experience and best practices with fellow coaches.

Participants will take in keynote presentations, panel discussions, live interviews and on-ice demonstrations from some of hockey’s biggest names. Confirmed speakers for this year are former Calgary Flames head coach Glen Gulutzan as well as assistant coaches Paul McFarland (Florida Panthers) and Todd Woodcroft (Winnipeg Jets). Past speakers include Ray Ferraro and Bob McKenzie. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn from some of the top coaches in the game today!

The Coaching Association of Canada and Hockey Canada introduced Certification Maintenance requirements nationally in January of 2014, in which a coach has five years to obtain a certain number of Professional Development points in order to maintain their NCCP Coaching Certification.

There are a number of specialty clinics that give coaches the opportunity to maintain their certification. Check with your local association or view the Coaching Clinics listing and ensure that you’re qualification to coach for next season is up to date before it is too late.

Each specialty clinic provides a different amount of points towards a coach’s certification. Points are used towards maintenance of that certification. If your certification is expiring in the 2019-20 season and you do not maintain your earned points, your Hockey Canada Qualification will revert from ‘Certified’ to ‘Trained’.
