The CCM Drill of the Month for April is the ‘Behind V’.

Practice controlling the puck with the tip of your blade in this V-shaped motion.

1. Position your body facing forward and try to keep your toes pointing ahead of you.

2. Start the puck on your forehand side on the toe of your blade, behind you.

3. Bring the puck into your body and push it away making a V pattern to practice your control.

Players won’t always find themselves in situations where they will get control of the puck on their forehand in front of their body. Becoming comfortable with handling the puck, no matter where it is around your body, will help players evade defenders and improve their puck control. This drill helps player increase their chances of gaining possession of a loose puck. Knowing where the puck is around your feet and getting it in front of your body is beneficial as well.

Puck possession is an important factor in offensive play. Chances are if the puck isn’t on your stick or one of your teammates’ then you aren’t getting a lot of shots on net. This drill increases the likelihood of winning puck battles.
