Hockey Gives Back stories from across the province presented by Dodge

There are so many OMHA teams out helping in their communities no matter the time of year. We are sent many great submissions from teams about what they are doing to make their neighbourhood a better place. The OMHA is so proud of the efforts of all of our teams for knowing the values of respect and community.

Here are some of the submissions we have received over the last few weeks.

Want your story shared on the OMHA website? You can submit your team's story and picture using the form at the bottom of the page.

DETERMINATION

Wayne Claxton, a longtime OMHA Official, had his right leg amputated above the knee after being diagnosed with cancer. After being an Official, Referee Instructor and Referee Supervisor in the OMHA for many years, Wayne was already back at the OMHA Development Weekend just months after his surgery and recently attended a recertification clinic and the Guelph Referee School.

He has been fitted with a prosthetic and his recovery speaks to his character and determination to stay involved in the Program and give back just like all OMHA Team Officials, Board Members and Volunteers.

His family is asking for donations to help cover some of the cost of the prosthetic. Those who would like to contribute can do so here.

Teammates for Life

When Alex Luey was diagnosed with cancer his Niagara Falls Flyers hockey community immediately rallied around him. They were with him every step of the way in his recovery and he's now back on the ice with his teammates.

Pink the Rink

October is also known as Breast Cancer Awareness Month and a number of teams from across the OMHA have taken the initiative to support the cause by wearing pink and running fundraisers. From pink stick tape to pink jerseys, every team is finding a unique way to promote awareness.
