New teams make the list

The Ontario Minor Hockey Association has released the third edition of the Minor Midget & Midget AAA Top 5 Rankings Powered by Under Armour for the 2016-2017 regular season. These rankings will be released on a bi-weekly schedule.

With every team now having a few games under their belt there are some shake ups in the rankings. Here is the second edition of the rankings.

5 Ajax-Pickering Raiders (4-0-2) - 2

Honourable Mentions:

Barrie Jr. Colts
Halton Hurricanes

Players to Watch

Hayden Fowler (Kingston Jr. Frontenacs) - A slick 5'8" left winger who is constantly in motion and backing off defencemen. His feet rarely stop moving and the offence with the Frontenacs runs through him early on. Fowler is a sparkplug to get the team going.

Matthew Dunsmoor (Guelph Jr. Gryphons) - One of the top goaltenders in the Minor Midget age group. Dunsmoor never gives up on pucks and is a big game goalie. He has strong instincts in net and rarely gets beat clean.

Midget AAA Rankings

Rank Team Previous Rank Weeks Ranked
1 Central Ontario Wolves (5-3-2) 1 2
2 Clarington Toros (5-3-0) 3 3
3 Markham Waxers (3-0-0) 2 2
4 Oakville Rangers (5-0-0) 4 3
5 Niagara North Stars (3-0-1) - 1

Players to Watch

Payton Mcleish (Markham Waxers) - The skilled defenceman has emerged as one of the ETA’s top puck moving blueliners. Mcleish has an eye for finding the puck in his own end and putting it to a safe place. He also has a knack for joining the rush and has the speed not only to contribute offensively but to get back to his position on any turnover.  Mcleish is a very large reason why the Waxers are leading the ETA in goals against and he looks to help them rise to the top of the OMHA Midget Rankings.

Mike Cabral (Oakville Rangers) - The right shot forward is off to a hot start in SCTA action, with points in every game so far this season. Cabral is a strong skating forward who is not shy about taking the physical route while on his way to the net. He has looked to refine his offensive game, mixed with a strong back check and commitment to his own end. Cabral is a very large reason the Rangers remain unbeaten in the SCTA and if they continue to have success, Cabral will definitely be a factor.
