A guide to tryouts is the focus of the spring edition of Hometown Hockey magazine

The Ontario Minor Hockey Association is proud to deliver the Spring edition of Hometown Hockey Magazine in a digital version. The magazine is now available on OMHA.net.

With championships wrapped up, many associations across the OMHA are hosting tryouts in either the spring or fall. To help prepare for what is usually a pressure-packed time in your hockey life, this edition of Hometown Hockey magazine is filled with tryout tips for coaches, parents and players. It also provides some examples of activities you can do to improve in the off-season.

The feature story is for hockey parents and what they should expect from their child and the coach during tryouts. It also looks at what can happen when patience and expectations no longer are on the same curve and how parents can still enjoy the experience of hockey even if their child did not make the team.

How a team can activate their defencemen into a rush attack without compromising the defensive responsibility is also highlighted. As the game changes to a faster pace, it is important to keep all players involved in both ends on the ice.

Other sections include how to increase grip strength in ‘Hit the Gym’, some recipes for power snacks in the Family Fuel section along with other great coaching tips, parental advice, reminders, contests and games for kids of all ages.
