The hockey season can be like a roller coaster - there are many ups and downs. When Playdowns season rolls around, it's important to get hot at the right time on the Road to #RedHats.
Here are some OMHA teams from across the province that are catching fire and our just some of our CCM #MadeForHockey Teams to Watch in Playdowns.
The Rockets have been on a roll ever since Playdowns began. They beat St. Marys 6-0 in qualifying and also swept the Dorchester Dragons in the quarterfinals. After finishing second in their division (behind the Dragons) during the regular season (11-5-3) and posting the second best goal differential (+27), Strathroy has found its groove before their semi-final matchup against the Niagara on the Lake Wolves, who have had a similarly strong Playdowns showing.
Currently down 4-2 against Halton Hills in the quarterfinals, the Gryphons are showing they won’t go down without a fight. Guelph finished second to the Hurricanes in the preliminaries and have hung in with them in the quarter finals. The two teams have played in a pair of one-goal games with three games remaining and the Gryphons are one win away from tying the series.
Peewee C – Sturgeon Lake Thunder
This group of 12 year olds finished the year with a 14-0-2 undefeated season and are on a winning streak of over 15 games. They’ve played most of the year largely unscathed. Sturgeon Lake will play either Seaforth of West Grey in the semi-finals as the two teams are set for a win-or-go-home final matchup to determine who advances. The Thunder could be in tough against a battle-tested team that will be riding a big win.
The team won’t jump out in the standings but the Wolfpack have proven the ability to win when it matters. They edged by Simcoe in the preliminaries (6-4) and are tied with Ingersoll 2-2 in the quarterfinals. Paris has proven it won’t go down without a fight and will be a tough opponent to beat for whoever is facing them.
Brock finished one point above two other teams to win the division during the regular season and have carried that momentum into Playdowns. They have the ability to light the lamp – the Wild averaged 5 goals a game in their quarter final matchup. Undefeated in Playdowns, the Wild now await their semi-final opponent.
