OMHA Announces Rosters for 2014 Program of Excellence Under 16 OHL Gold Cup

The Ontario Minor Hockey Association is pleased to announce the rosters and team staff for two OMHA teams who will participate in the 2014 Under 16 OHL Gold Cup to be held in Kitchener ON, May 8-11, 2014.

The rosters are comprised of 40 of the best minor midget-aged players who played in the OMHA this season.

“It was a significant challenge assembling two OMHA teams to compete in the OHL Gold Cup given the amount of talent and depth in the OMHA at this age group.   With the high quality players and team staff we have selected, we are confident that we will have two strong teams to represent the OMHA at this year’s event”, stated Chris McCleary, Team OMHA Director of Operations.

The Under-16 OHL Gold Cup is an annual event created to feature Ontario’s top Under-16 talent. This event not only showcases Ontario’s talent, but it is an evaluation and selection process for Team Canada. The top players from the U16 OHL Gold Cup will attend the Under-17 Team Canada National Camp where the Hockey Canada Staff will select 66 players from across the country to represent Canada at the World Under-17 Challenge held annually in December. With 8 teams and 160 players representing the ALLIANCE, GTHL(2 Teams), HEO, HNO, NOHA, and OMHA(2 Teams), the future of Canadian hockey is on display during the 2014 OHL Gold Cup.

“This is a great opportunity for these players and another step in the player development pathway” said Ian Taylor, Director, Development Programs. “It will be exciting to see the top Minor Midget players from across the OMHA come together.”
