The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation encourage players to grow their flow and support a future without breast cancer

The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation (CBCF) – Ontario Region and the Ontario Minor Hockey Association have teamed up on a league-wide initiative with member clubs and players who will participate in CBCFs newest hockey fundraising initiative Hockey Hair for Breast Cancer.

Hockey Hair for Breast Cancer is a unique and powerful way for hockey players and their families to raise funds and support a future without breast cancer. It’s a wonderful way for young players to show support for hockey moms and recognize their significant contributions to hockey communities across Ontario.

“Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation is thrilled to have the support of the Ontario Minor Hockey Association on this new and engaging initiative,” says Leigh Jasmine, Director, Community Development, CBCF-Ontario Region. “We are excited that the minor hockey community will grow their hockey flows to raise important funds to support the most promising breast cancer research and education programs.”

“We are extremely excited to be working with the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation – Ontario Region on this one-of-a-kind program.” said Chris McCleary, Director of Marketing and Events for the OMHA. “Hockey Hair for Breast Cancer will provide awareness and financial support to an illness that impacts many OMHA Members; CBCF – Ontario Region has our full support in this initiative.”

The first ever Hockey Hair for Breast Cancer season starts on January 31, 2014 and finishes on the last game of the 2013-14 OMHA hockey season. Players, coaches, parents/guardians and their families across Ontario will show their support for CBCF by pledging to grow our their hair until the end of hockey season, style their “flow” pink, and/or hold pink games to raise funds and awareness for the breast cancer cause.

Young hockey players will not only look cool and have a blast styling their hockey “flow”, they will also be making a difference in a disease that affects 1 in 9 women in her lifetime. Funds raised by the program will support the most promising breast cancer research, health education and advocacy programs that aim to reduce the incidence of breast cancer, lower mortality rates and support women and their families who have experienced breast cancer.

Hockey Hair for Breast Cancer officially launches on January 31st, 2014 but teams can pre-register by visiting www.hockeyhairforbreastcancer.com
