January 7, 2014 was this nations kick-off to the 2014 Olympics as Hockey Canada announced their 25 man roster for the National Men’s Hockey Team.Media and fans alike packed the Centre of Excellence in Toronto, while millions watched around the country as the team was announced, further fueling the anticipation for what should be a great tournament.
All of the excitement reminded us that Ontario is a powerhouse in hockey. This may not be that surprising but 11 of the 25 players chosen for the national men’s team, 11 of the 21 from the national women’s team and 12 of the 20 national sledge hockey players call Ontario home. Nonetheless, it made us wonder.
What would an all Ontario Olympic men’s team look like? Why not put a hypothetical roster together just for the fun of it? So that’s what we decided to do. This list is not meant to detract from the 25 players chosen to represent our nation in Sochi but instead, meant to honor the many other Ontario natives that could have ended up on Team Canada or may represent our country in the future.
