Lasting impact on every level of the minor hockey landscape

The Ontario Minor Hockey Association mourns the recent passing of Helen Ford.

Helen had a lasting impact on every level of the minor hockey landscape.

She was a dedicated volunteer in many roles with Oakville Minor Hockey, from Team Manager, Ice Scheduler and Board Member in supporting facilitating minor hockey for the youth of her community. She was also a long-standing contributor to the Tri-County Hockey League and OMHA AAA West (formerly the SCTA), serving in a variety of positions.

Helen also contributed to the OMHA as a long-time Convenor and member of the OMHA Regional Nominations Committee.

In recognition of her contributions to the game, Helen was named the recipient of the 2018 OMHA Honour Award for her years of volunteerism and impact in creating a lasting positive impression on players.

A fixture at the OMHA Annual Meetings, Helen’s welcoming presence and smiling face were always sought out by OMHA Board, Meeting Delegates and Staff alike. Her attention to such seemingly small acts of kindness as baking cupcakes for Staff and Board were appreciated and eagerly anticipated at every Annual Meeting.

She will be remembered not only for her dedication to minor hockey, but her incredibly kind spirit.

From tournaments, Showcase events and Championship weekends, Helen could always be found at the rink supporting the players and teams. Those who knew her closely describe her warmth and tireless efforts in working with hockey families to help grow the game.

Helen did it all and was loved by all.
