Screening drill that helps both players and goalies
Theme
Screen & Tips/Shooting
Description
2 pylons set up just inside the blue line with a third in the high slot. Pucks at both pylons at the blueline with players behind both cones.
This drill can be done at both ends of the rink.
On a whistle starting with one player in front screening, X1 will leave without a puck.
X2 from the second line with give a pass to them. They will continue to the net and release a shot before the hashmarks.
X1 will turn back towards their line and come around the cone looking for a second pass from X2.
As X1 receives this pass they will skate around the cone and take another shot before the hashmarks.
X1 will then curl and make their way back towards the pylon and get a third pass from X2.
X1 will skate one last time around the cone and take their last shot.
After X1 has finished, they will replace the player in front of the net screening and that player will rejoin a line
Key Points
Ensure the player screening in front is taking the goalies eyes away. This is good practice for both the goalies and the players in front
Shots should be coming quick after coming around the pylon, encourage players to not hang on to the puck for so long and to take shots before getting to low in the slot
Players should be communicating and calling for passes each time to build good habits
