Forwards should be creative and try new things rather then straight up and down

Theme

Half-Ice/Awareness/Offensive Zone

Description

  • Both nets down at one end and a goalie in each. 4 lines of forwards on the blue line with the 2 lines closest to the boards having pucks.
  • Two defenceman will start between the 2 sets of forward lines. On a whistle forwards will leave with the defenceman starting to skate backwards.
  • Forwards can shoot on both nets no matter what line you start from. Forwards can also all pass to each other.
  • The defenceman's job is to try and break up passes and eventually clear the puck out or have the goalies freeze it.
  • As forwards your job is to try and score.
  • Once 1 puck has been cleared, frozen, or ends up in the net, focus will then turn to the only puck left in play.
  • Once there are no pucks remaining, players will clear out for the next group.

Key Points

  • Goalies need to be focused and tracking pucks with 2 in play
  • Forwards should be creative and try new things rather then straight up and down, this is a drill to work on your offensive zone time
  • Defenceman need to be vocal and communicate with each other as well as having strong active sticks
