Two drills happening at the same time

Description

Drill 1

  • 1 line of players, with 1 skater on the boards at the hashmarks and another starting just beside the first skater in line.
  • Loose pucks will be just under the goal line.
  • On the whistle the first player in line will leave to pick up one of the loose pucks.
  • X2 will be set up on the wall waiting to receive the pass from X1 who just grabbed the puck.
  • X3 is trying to support the puck down low while X1 picks it up before timing his skate towards the net to get a pass from X2 and take a shot.
  • After the shot is taken X1 will become X2 and X2 will move into X3 position.

Drill 2

  • 2 lines of forwards with 1 defenceman setup behind the net with pucks.
  • To start both forwards will come down and cross in front of the net.
  • The D will pick a side to step out from and pass to 1 of the forwards.
  • The forwards will continue skating and cross once again near the end boards and exchange the puck with a pass or a bump off the wall.
  • The D is tracking them as they skate closing the gap and pivoting as they start to come back towards the net.
  • The forwards will work for a scoring chance 2-on-1 with the D
  • After a shot, players will clear out and a new group will go

Key Points

  • Tape to tape passes
  • Defenceman making sure their gap is not to big
  • Forwards need to be curling low when getting the pass for the defenceman
  • X3 in drill 1 needs to time his acceleration appropriately, not be so far ahead when receiving the pass
