The OMHA and CoachThem are excited to reveal the winners of the OMHA Team of the Month for March!
The program is aimed at recognizing minor hockey teams in the province making a positive impact on the ice and in their communities who demonstrate all of the positives that hockey has to offer.
This award isn’t about going undefeated during the month or scoring hat tricks, it’s about stories of teamwork and perseverance, leadership and being good role models in and around the rink. We want to hear the stories of food drives, helping a teammate, making new friends and having fun!
Thank you to all the teams who submitted entries for the 2024-25 season. This is the final month of the Team of the Month program for this year.
Whitby Wildcats U15 A White: Our team is a hard working team both on and off the ice. Coach Geoff fosters an environment of hard work, respect and giving back to a community that has supported our team and minor hockey in general. We started a minor mentorship project with our U12 A White team at the beginning of the season which has included team building and fun, community involvement, and cheering each others teams on at games! Leading up to Remembrance Day, the U15 moms hand knit over 500 poppies which the team sold on social media as well as at out local rink before games. We were proud to be able to donate 100% of our sales, over $2700, to our Brooklin and Whitby Legion Branches. This team also has success on the ice, winning the Belleville Mid Season Tilt Tournament!
Centre Wellington Fusion U13 B: My grandson plays for this team and I couldn’t be more proud to have him associated with such a great group of players, coaches and parents. The coaches on this team drive home daily the importance of respect for their teammates and for the players on opposing teams and the importance of giving back to the community. To date they have raised funds for Right to Play Indigenous Programs, collected and donated 289lbs of food to their local food bank and helped out with younger teams. This is amazing group of kids and in my opinion deserve to be recognized for their heart and commitment.
South Huron Sabres U11 B2: The South Huron Sabres U11 B2 team has shown incredible dedication to both hockey and community spirit. In support of the Coldest Night of the Year campaign, the team raised an impressive $1,695 to help the most vulnerable members of their community in Southern Huron. Not only did they fundraise as a team, but they also organized and participated in their own walk around the community, making a meaningful impact through their hard work and teamwork.
