The OMHA and CoachThem are excited to reveal the winners of the OMHA Team of the Month for December!
The program is aimed at recognizing minor hockey teams in the province making a positive impact on the ice and in their communities who demonstrate all of the positives that hockey has to offer.
This award isn’t about going undefeated during the month or scoring hat tricks, it’s about stories of teamwork and perseverance, leadership and being good role models in and around the rink. We want to hear the stories of food drives, helping a teammate, making new friends and having fun!
Three teams will be selected every month, with each coach receiving a CoachThem prize pack. Use the form at the bottom of the article to submit your team's story!
Orangeville Flyers U11 AA: A hard working group of boys who love playing hockey and giving back to their community. They have collected over 60 pounds of food for their local foodbank, supported a local Hockey Fights Cancer initiative with donations back to their local hospital and most recently spent an afternoon making stockings for local seniors who are without family at Christmas. Despite 8 new players joining the team and not having won a game in their new loop yet - they continue to develop, stay positive and find ways to enjoy their hockey season together as old and new friends.
New Hamburg Huskies U10 A: The team has been busy giving back to their communities even before the season began! They started by gathering together to do a school yard clean up in August. They wanted all of their peers to return to a new school year with clean yards. Between the team they cleaned up 4 school yards in the Township!
They also contributed to the Wilmot Family Resource Center by participating in their Backpack Initiative. The team filled 3 whole backpacks for children in need. Some of the team even did a Lemonade Stand to raise funds for items in the backpack!
Next, they headed to the Wilmot Family Resource Center to volunteer in sorting food items for the staff, so they can utilize their time helping those in need!
They are set to also participate in supporting a Family Christmas Hamper, using funds from their bottle drive! This team is so dedicated on and off the ice. They truly know what it means to be New Hamburg Huskie and are so excited to give back to the community they love, in any possible way!
Their success on the ice has also been something to be proud of, earning silver in the recent Silverstick tournament. Way to go Huskies!!
Guelph Jr. Gryphons U10 A: Our team newsletter shows how hockey is giving back to the community and also the incredibly positive impact the sport has, not only for athletic purposes but also teaching these youngsters how to give back and think of others. Being a contributing community member is so important now more than ever. The group raised over $1,900 in toys and gifts for families in need during the holiday season.
Please note previous submissions are still eligible throughout the season. You do not need to resubmit every month.
