Past Treasurer, Officer and Board Member served minor hockey for decades

The Ontario hockey community is deeply saddened by the passing of OMHA Life Member and longtime past Treasurer Bill Rowney on July 30, 2024.

Rowney was the team manager of the Milton Bantam team from 1963-1972 and served as the Milton Minor Hockey representative on the Tri-County League Board from 1966-67. He would serve in Convenor, Vice-President and President roles with Tri-County from 1967-1972 and received the Tri-County Honour Award in 1972.

Rowney was an OMHA District Convenor and a member of the OMHA Executive Committee from 1972-1976. From 1976-2014, Rowney was the OMHA Treasurer, an Officer and Board Member.

From the Rowney family:

It is with great sadness, that we announce the passing of William "Bill" Charles Rowney, at 90 years of age.

He is finally reunited with his loving wife; Carol " Bobbie " Roberta (2016).  Bill will be greatly missed by his sister-in-law Frances Woodley and her husband Robert; his nephew; Marcus, nieces; Carol-Lynn and Heather along with their families.

Bill will also be missed by his wonderful Support Workers; Shawna, Kristy, Frank and Memnaz.  They were his companions, friends and caregivers which brought a smile to his face everyday.

Bill took over the Milton Machine Shop ( Established in 1946 ) from his Dad and built it into a thriving business. He is fondly remembered by his close friend; Henry Brinke, current owner of the Milton Machine Shop since 2000. Bill spent many years as the Hydro Commissioner for the Town of Milton; he was the Treasurer of the O.M.H.A. for over 39 years and was inducted into the Milton Sports Hall of Fame in 2020.

A special thank you to the local Masons of the Saint Clair Masonic Lodge for their support during this time of loss and sorrow, where Bill was a long standing member and was very much involved in the Milton Community.

In lieu of flowers, donations are greatly appreciated by the family, to be made to the Hospice Wellington (Guelph) for the wonderful care that he received or to the Townsend Smith Foundation towards the future hospice plans for the Halton Region.
