As I look back on another great season I want to say thank you again for helping me fall in love with hockey.
There are more hours than I can count that you’ve been by my side taking me back and forth from the rink and sitting in cold bleachers watching me on the ice. For as many times as I fell down, I got up just as many with an even bigger smile on my face. I know it wasn’t easy for you to make sure that my homework was done and a healthy meal was made before rushing out the door to get to the arena on time, slushing through all the ice and snow.
Even though you already had a busy day of your own you wouldn’t hesitate to get me involved in hockey. Whether it was helping to organize a team outing or carpooling with the other parents to go to a tournament on the road, your dedication to making sure I had a positive experience is something I hope to emulate one day.
From the first time I stepped onto the ice I knew that this is the sport I wanted to play. I know it may have been frustrating for you seeing my struggle but I want you to know that every practice I got better and better and hockey has given me new confidence and friendships that I hope I can carry with me for years to come. Hockey has given me a lot but it’s just a small part of everything that you’ve given to me.
If I had a bad game or made a mistake you were always there to lift my spirits and redirect my focus onto the positives. You’ve been by my side to celebrate the goals and brought me up from my lows. I want you to know that hockey has made me a better person and taught me valuable lessons about sportsmanship, working hard, giving back to my community and what it means to be a good person. I hope to be able to give back to the sport one day in the same dedication that you’ve had.
The smile that's on my face when I'm on the ice is a constant reminder of the happiness that hockey brings to me. And I couldn't have done it without you. Happy Mother’s Day!
