Determine budget, awards and venue

Can’t believe that in a blink of an eye another hockey season is in the books! Just because the games are done doesn’t mean we have to stop making memories. Now that we’ve all had a break after the season and before Evaluations get underway, it’s the perfect time to spend together as a team for one last party.

Now that the weather is cooperating, here are some tips to plan your End of Season Team Party:

Determine a Budget
Just like during the season, make sure everyone on the team is okay with the budget and aren’t surprised at the end with the cost when it’s time to chip in their share. Keep in mind items that will add to the total like rentals, food, prizing and possibly insurance. You can keep costs down by having the party be a potluck, as this also reduces the burden on the party planners.

Indoors or Outside?
Many arenas offer rooms or lounges big enough to hold team parties and functions just like this. Let the facility know your plans and work with them to reserve the room.

If you opt to host privately at someone’s home, and especially pool parties, ensure proper safety and supervision at all times. You can also decide to hang out at a public park where it gives kids the opportunity to be active and enjoy the weather.

Slideshow
Work with the team to gather all of the photos and videos from the season. From pre-game hype up to post-game pizza parties or bus rides, this is a great way to have some flashbacks or your memories from this season. This is opportunity for everyone to share their favourite moments with the group and what this season meant to them.

Awards
Some teams use this year end party to hand out awards to players and coaches. These can be serious or silly, such as the Hardest Worker or Most Improved, or the Biggest Jokester or Best DJ. Individual awards create a special moment for your players and reinforces the positives of being part of a hockey team.

Recognize the Coaches and Volunteers
As part of the budget, decide on a team gift to present to the coaching staff and any other volunteers who helped make the season possible. They dedicated countless hours this year to share the love of the game and help your kids have a positive experience.
