The Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA) and Desjardins Insurance teamed up to sponsor over 400 hockey teams across the province this season.

Each team was provided with $600 in direct funding in exchange for putting a Desjardins Insurance patch on their jerseys. There were 410 teams sponsored in Ontario, over half of which are in the OMHA. The additional teams selected are with independent associations in communities where Desjardins Agents are located, the number of teams chosen is reflective of the number of Agents in Ontario.

The funding received can help offset some of the costs that occur during the regular season such as registration, tournament fees, and other expenses.

“As a Desjardins Agent and former hockey parent, to have the opportunity to sponsor a team just brings me joy to be able to give back,” said Traci Langill. “Agents are in the community, working with families every day. We hear about our client’s children growing up, and to be able to help out in any way to make sure they have a positive minor hockey experience in the families we serve is very important to Desjardins Agents.”

“We are excited to partner with Desjardins Insurance for this program that helps reduce the costs of the game to hockey families,” said OMHA Executive Director Ian Taylor. “Through the jersey patches, teams and families know they are being supported in helping to make the sport more affordable for everyone.”

The program was open to eligible House and Local league teams of any age.
