The Ontario Minor Hockey Association has released the sixth edition of the U16 and U18 AAA Top 5 Rankings presented by Hudl for the 2022-2023 regular season. These rankings will be released on a bi-weekly schedule.

As teams make the final push in the regular season ahead of playoffs, let's see where they stand after the holiday break.

U16 AAA Rankings

Peterborough jumps into the third spot and are currently one of the hottest teams, riding a 10 game winning streak.

Players to Watch

Dryden Allen (Southern Tier Admirals): A highly intelligent puck moving defenceman that can be trusted to make the right decision in all three zones. He has excellent feet and edges and keeps his head up while handling the puck. This allows him to make great reads when being pressured, so he can properly evaluate his options and find the correct outlet. Because Allen has confidence in his skill and skating, if options don't present themselves, he can escape and skate the puck out. This also allows him to be effective in the offensive zone, allowing him to walk the line and find good passing lanes.

Zach Wilson (Central Ontario Wolves): A big defender that forwards will avoid going against. He uses good edges and transitions to close gaps and his long reach allows him to disrupt a lot of plays before his blueline. In the corners and net front, Wilson shows excellent toughness and timing to eliminate sticks and players to open shooting lanes for his goalie. When exiting his zone, he is confident with his passes and can zip hard passes quickly up to his forwards. Along the offensive blueline, his heavy shot creates a lot of rebounds and scoring opportunities for his team.

U18 AAA Rankings

The Jr. Colts get one place closer to the top spot and are putting together a lot of momentum since the calendar flipped to 2023.

Players to Watch

Brock Mathieson (Clarington Toros): A tough competitor who competes hard in all areas of the rink making him a true 200-foot player. Opponents struggle to contain his offensive skills as he uses these skills and his strong work ethic to be a constant threat. Mathieson uses his high hockey IQ to have an impact on each and every shift. He has a tremendous shot and with his offensive skills and instincts and finds himself near the top of the scoring race. He leads by example and shows all of his teammates the right way to play the game.

Hiroji Boudreau (Oakville Rangers): A veteran defenceman who can influence every game that he plays in. The second year leader of the Rangers defence group is dominant in all areas of the game, including both special teams and 5 on 5. He quarterbacks the strong Oakville powerplay and is also on the ice defending a Rangers lead in the final minute. Boudreau is a great skater with excellent mobility and combines his overall skating ability and great puck skills to be an offensive defenceman threat. Makes his teammates better and leads by example, being an excellent role model and valuable asset for his team.
