The Ontario Minor Hockey Association has released the second edition of the U16 and U18 AAA Top 5 Rankings presented by Hudl for the 2022-2023 regular season. These rankings will be released on a bi-weekly schedule.

With a month's worth of games under team's belts, here's where they stand.

U16 AAA Rankings

The Express take over the top spot, while the Predators and Jr. Bulldogs make their first appearances in the Top 5.

Players to Watch

Andrew MacNeil (Peterborough Minor Petes): A big right shot defender that plays in all situations for his team. Skates well for his size allowing him to have good gaps and eliminate rushes before entering his zone. MacNeil's stick is actively eliminating passing lanes and he anticipates well so that he can create turnovers and quickly transition pucks up ice to his forwards. Not only does he have strong outlets, he joins the rush at opportune times, so that he can be a factor offensively.

James Barr (Burlington Eagles): Controls the game when he is on the ice. Barr is very comfortable with the puck on his stick and is incredibly poised under pressure. He can then allow plays to develop instead of forcing passes. If he needs to buy time for this to happen, Barr will rely on his edges and agility to evade a forechecker and skate the puck out of trouble or fire a pass to an open teammate. Inside the offensive zone, Barr moves well laterally and opens a lot of shooting and passing lanes.

U18 AAA Rankings

The Waxers and Eagles make their first appearance in the Rankings and leapfrog to the top spot, showing every game matters.

Players to Watch

Tyson Wilcox (Kingston Jr. Gaels): A goalie who has the deadly combination of great athletic ability and being an intense competitor. He is swift, and agile, with great lateral movement as well as great goalie form in both blocking the puck and controlling rebounds. He also has excellent puck handling skills for a goalie which he uses to control opponents shoot-ins and initiate breakouts. Like elite goalies at the U18 level, Wilcox has the ability to steal games for the Jr. Gaels this season.

Liam McKenzie (Barrie Jr. Colts): A 6'5" forward who is coming into his own in his second U18 season. He has great agility and mobility for a big frame and plays hard in both ends of the rink. He distributes the puck well to his teammates but is not shy about shooting as he has a quick release with deadly accuracy. McKenzie is a quiet, humble leader who leads by example and is a calming influence in the dressing room. This earned him the captaincy of the Colts for this season.
