Drill of the Week presented by CoachThem

Description

  • F1 is just inside the blue line, in dot line with pucks
  • F2 is in the slot, facing F1 next to the coach
  • Goalie is set up in stance at top of the crease
  • On command, F1 passes puck to F2 and receives it back
  • F1 attacks the net through the dot line
  • F2 skates up and away from the net simulating a net drive around the coach gaining body position
  • F2 skates and shoots puck far side looking to generate a rebound of F1 attacking the net

Key Points

  • Goalie tracks shooter coming driving the net from the blue line
  • Goalie must maintain good depth and stay square to the shot
  • Scan the zone to identify where F2 is as a pass/rebound threat
  • From the initial shot, goalie must work to elevate the puck, smother the puck or place the rebound where F2 cannot easily retrieve it for a secondary scoring chance.
  • Play rebound out if it is near the net
