Will draw from Brampton, Caledon, Orangeville and play in the SCTA

The Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA) is excited to announce the Credit River Capitals as a new AAA zone.

The Capitals will draw from Brampton Hockey, Caledon Minor Hockey and Orangeville Minor Hockey and will play in the South Central AAA (SCTA) League. Brampton Hockey will be recategorized to a AA base category centre.

The OMHA, through its AAA Committee, has engaged in a comprehensive review of AAA hockey across the OMHA for the past two years. Through this review, we have completed a thorough analysis of player registration trends, competitive history, population and demographic shifts and ice capacity. The first outcome of this review is the creation of this new AAA Zone.

The issue of Zone restructuring has been one of the items addressed by the OMHA AAA Committee. The OMHA remains committed to the review of AAA hockey and this will be the first impact of that ongoing process.

“The formation of a new Zone involving Brampton, Caledon and Orangeville is an exciting next step in OMHA AAA hockey,” said OMHA President Bob Hill. “The OMHA is looking to create more competitive teams for our skilled participants while strengthening the Centres feeding the new Zone. We see this new Zone as a win for the Credit River Capitals and the minor hockey organizations.”

This new AAA Zone will provide players from these three feeder Associations continued access to AAA hockey and increase the player pool available to ensure meaningful competition moving forward.

Brampton:
“Brampton Hockey Inc. is excited about the new chapter in youth hockey with the announcement of Brampton becoming part of a zone along with Caledon and Orangeville. This should put us on a more competitive field moving forward and we are excited for these changes and know this will generate excitement throughout our three centres.”

Caledon:
“Caledon Minor Hockey is very excited to be part of the new AAA zone, the Credit River Capitals! We look forward to working together with Brampton and Orangeville on this new adventure. Wishing all the teams the best of luck on their inaugural season!”

Orangeville:
“Orangeville Minor Hockey is looking forward to being part of the new AAA Zone and partnership this upcoming season. We look forward to providing our players with the opportunity to represent our community in our new zone at the AAA level.”

More broadly, the OMHA is also committed to provide access to hockey for all, ensuring meaningful and appropriate competition and a positive hockey experience.

Current members of Brampton, Caledon and Orangeville will receive further communications outlining more details.
