Brampton native heavily involved in minor hockey for decades

The Ontario hockey community is saddened by the passing of Bill Burrell at the age of 96, who served as OMHA President from 1977-1978.

Burrell was heavily involved in the minor hockey community in Brampton as was a Past President and Lifetime Member of Brampton Minor Hockey.

His involvement in the Brampton community carried over away from the rink as well. He was a veteran of World War II and was awarded the 1939/45 Star, the France/Germany Star, the CVS Medal and Clasp, Operation Wings, Air Gunners Badge, and the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal. Burrell was made Brampton Citizen of the Year in 2005 and the recipient of the Paul Harris Award through Brampton Rotary – the highest Rotary honour given. He spent his working years at Canada Post as one of Brampton’s original six letter carriers – twice daily delivery, and once on Saturday - retiring after 40 years with unblemished attendance.
