Forward chosen 2nd overall, first of 6 players in first round

Hockey dreams took a major stride forward on the weekend as Ontario Minor Hockey Association players were chosen in the Ontario Hockey League’s Priority Selection, including six in the first round.

The OMHA had 80 players selected from 19 teams. The Oakville Rangers led the entire draft with 16 players chosen, including a record five of the first eleven picks. The Hamilton Jr. Bulldogs had eight players picked while the York-Simcoe Express, Barrie Jr. Colts and Quinte Red Devils each had seven players drafted. Every OHL club picked at least one OMHA player.

The draft was completed over two days, with the first three rounds on Friday evening and rounds four to fifteen taking place on Saturday morning.

Player development is a key component of the OMHA experience. The OMHA conducts a wide range of clinics for players, coaches and other volunteers to improve their skills and enhance their overall experience and enjoyment of the sport. OMHA boasts a long list of grads who earned their place in the NHL from Taylor Hall to Travis Dermott to Steven Stamkos. Up and coming names include NHL first round picks Quinton Byfield, Connor McMichael and Ty Dellandrea.

Ritchie is described as one of the top prospects in the OHL Draft this year. He can be put on the ice in any situation of the game, whether you need the game winning goal or the last second stop. Ritchie is a complete 200-foot player that coaches love to have. His hockey sense is noted as elite and takes responsibility in all three zones. What separates him from other players is his dedication to both sides of the puck and understands where he needs to be.
Miedema is a big, skilled player with a high ceiling. He has great vision for his size and his offensive game can be dominant. Miedema will have little problem transitioning to the next level. The way he thinks the game will be an advantage. His game is simple but effective and also has the ability to be creative when needed. Miedema says he is working to improve his physical game.

With a quick shot and speed and agility, Soto is a threat in the offensive zone whether or not he has the puck on his stick. Between protecting the puck and using his edges, it's those little things that Soto does on the ice that make the difference for him and his teammates.

Lardis is noted for his great skating ability and can keep up with the fast pace of game and uses it to his advantage. It’s not just his ability to skate back and forth but his edgework has been noticed for the power Lardis produces coming out of turns. This is an important skill for him that will translate well at the next level.
A centre who plays both sides of the puck, Misa is a speedy forward that uses his quickness to forecheck and create space for his teammates. His ability to play fast opens up the ice when he gets around defenders and suddenly finds himself in an immediate scoring opportunity. Misa makes himself noticed when he’s on the ice and stands out in his peer group.
Noted as a complete threat when on the ice, Outwater can score goals or set them up in equal fashion. He has the ability to beat defenders one on one and isn’t afraid to have the puck on his stick. Outwater can make things happen on the ice and averaged nearly two points a game in 2019-20. He is known for his offensive package and is described as dangerous when his team is on the attack.
