Teams are moving one step closer to the final round of Playdowns as many brackets are entering the Semifinal stage. As the field gets narrowed down it’s hard to miss the excitement of another year of Playdowns hockey filled with offensive shootouts, defensive battles and upsets. Keep an eye on these OMHA Playdowns Teams to Watch, presented by Egg Farmers of Ontario.

Minor Atom A – Southpoint Capitals/Welland Tigers
Tied 5-5 after five games, the Capitals and Tigers face off in a Game 6 on Tuesday night where the winner moves on to the semifinals. This will be a massive momentum boost for whoever advances. Both teams need to know they will need a lot of gas left in the tank for what’s ahead but this is the time of year to lay it all on the line.

Atom DD – Drayton Defenders
The Defenders often find themselves in one-goal games and have shown their ability to win the close contests. They have a tendency to play in low-scoring games and that experience can help them in the tight games that often happen in Playdowns. They can win on both the road and home ice and are already battle-tested.

Peewee AE2 – Aurora Tigers
Whoever faces the Tigers in the semifinals will need to bring their offensive attack as the Tigers can lock it down on the defensive end. Aurora caught fire at the end of the regular season and have carried that over in Playdowns. They haven’t shown many signs of slowing down and will be a tough out in the next round.

Midget B – Simcoe Warriors
After dropping the first two contests in the quarters the Warriors were on the ropes of elimination. They flipped the script and rallied of three straight wins to stun the Flames and move onto the semis, including the game-tying and winning goals in the final two minutes of a winner take all Game 5. The Warriors certainly don’t want to find themselves in that spot again but have proven to everyone never to count them out.
