The Ontario Minor Hockey Association is highlighting and celebrating the critical and often overlooked role of hockey volunteers, bringing awareness during the annual Thank a Volunteer Week from February 22-March 1, 2020.
Off the ice or on, whether you see them or not, there is an extremely devoted group of parents and volunteers who keep minor hockey in motion and ensure the best experience for the kids who play the game. Thank a Volunteer Week will be highlighted through volunteer video profiles and motivational tools to attract new volunteers.
“Volunteers are the pillars of the minor hockey experience and without them the foundation of the game simply wouldn’t exist. Their commitment of time and determination serves not just our teams but our communities across the province,” says Ian Taylor, Executive Director of the OMHA. “This annual event is just one way we can all recognize volunteer efforts and encourage others to share that same passion and pleasure they get out of their work.”
To kick off Thank a Volunteer Week, the recipients of two awards have been announced in recognition of their years of volunteerism in minor hockey: 2020 OMHA Patricia Hartley Administrators Award winner Cheryl Carrier (Quinte West) and 2020 OMHA Excellence in Development Award winner Matt Bell (Ennismore).
Take a minute to recognize the dedicated few, in your community.
Not only will we feature their story, but it helps let them know just how much you appreciate what they do.
