Minor Midget AAA Rankings

Every team has shown they are vulnerable as the top ranked teams have dropped a pair of games in their last 10 contests. The North Stars edge their way into the top five and the Wildcats leapfrog the Express after narrowly beating them.

Players to Watch

George Fegaras (Richmond Hill Coyotes) - A very mobile defender that uses a very smooth efficient stride that keeps his gaps very tight defensively. Because of this, forwards have limited space to attack and he can disrupt a lot of plays off the rush. Going forward, Fegaras has confidence carrying the puck, he opens up a lot of ice with good edges and puck control. He keeps his head up allowing him to read and react well to his options and he finds shooting and passing lanes with ease. He can drive a lot of offense for his team and makes opposing teams have to make sure they know when he is on the ice.

Tai York (Niagara North Stars) - A smart offensive player that uses his speed and instincts to produce offensively. Can read and react well, anticipating where pucks will be. This allows him to exploit mistakes or to pick off passes where he can then strike with his shot or use his patience to open things up. York routinely gets rewarded for having smart positional play and has been a big reason for his team's success thus far.

Midget AAA Rankings

The Minor Petes and North Stars continue to roll and are two of the strongest teams in this age group. The Jr. Gaels make an appearance, winning seven of their last 10 contests.

Players to Watch

Kevin Henstock (Oakville Rangers) - A player that can impact the game each and every time he’s on the ice. Has the ability to be create scoring chances when it appears he has no options. Henstock does this with his ability to protect the puck, and spin off opposing players’ checks. Combine that with his vision in tight and its no surprise Henstock is current assist leader in his league.

Derek Hamilton (Kingston Jr. Gaels) - Potentially the best goal scorer in Midget hockey this season. With 30 goals in 27 regular season games, its not hard to see that Hamilton has a nose for the net. Using his speed to beat defenders in the neutral zone, grinding down low behind the opposition net, or finding ways to get open in the offensive zone are just a few of the ways the ’02 left shot forward can beat opponents. Scoring nearly 30% of his teams goals so far this year, Hamilton and the Jr. Gaels look to be peaking at the right time heading into playoffs.
