Following the OMHA Showcase powered by Under Armour there are new teams putting their names into the conversation of championship contenders.

Minor Midget AAA Rankings

Both teams undefeated in their last 10 games, the Whitby Wildcats and Oakville Rangers make their first appearances in the rankings. They are getting hot at the right time. The top three remain consistent and continue to be among the best in this age group.

Players to Watch

Matthew Poitras (Whitby Wildcats) - An excellent play-making centreman who relies upon high-end hockey IQ and an exceptional work ethic. Poitras will compete all over the ice for pucks, often first on the forecheck or winning 1-on-1 battles. When he wins the puck, he already knows what to do as he can anticipate where his teammates are or where they will be. His vision and ability to make a variety of passes constantly puts pressure on defenses. However, his ability to use his instincts to score make him especially dangerous.

Sam Alfano (Southern Tier Admirals) - Big with an excellent reach, however, it is what he can do with the puck on his stick that is special. Alfano has a rare combo of having size and some fine puck skills. Usually difficult with a longer stick and a longer skating stride, Alfano has high end finesse with the puck. He can make excellent touch plays and passes that shows a great awareness and ability to execute. He also uses great positioning in offensive zone to find soft areas and he always seems to find loose pucks and rebounds. Alfano also uses good agility and edges to create time and space and shows off a quick accurate release whenever he is given an opportunity to shoot. He is an excellent leader for this offensive team and will be relied upon to score some big goals.

Midget AAA Rankings

The North Stars and Rangers remain two of the hottest teams in this age group and look to carry the momentum in the final weeks of the season. Peterborough continues their reign in the number one spot.

Players to Watch

Ryan Dunbar (York-Simcoe Express) - A physical defenceman with good size who possesses the ability to shutdown opponent's top players on a nightly basis. Solid gap control, combined with good stick positioning allows the left shot defenceman to effectively take away time and space from opposing players in all three zones. The Express will lean on Dunbar to continue his upward trajectory as the playoffs approach.

Ashton Curtin (Buffalo Regals) -  A solid two- way forward who is responsible in all three zones. He has great vision and his impressive edge work helps him slice through defences to create scoring opportunities for his team. Curtin is at his best when operating the Regals powerplay and distributing pucks from the half wall. When Curtin is on the ice, opponents take notice.
