The Ontario Minor Hockey Association has released the fourth edition of the Minor Midget and Midget AAA Top 5 Rankings powered by Under Armour for the 2019-2020 regular season. These rankings will be released on a bi-weekly schedule.

It's hard to believe the season is over a third of the way completed. However, that still means there is plenty left to be decided in the coming weeks of play.

Minor Midget AAA Rankings

The top three remain locked in and shows the competition is very tight in this group. There is some movement at the bottom half of the top five and teams will need to fight to remain in the rankings.

Players to Watch

Carson Christy (Oshawa Generals) - Uses his great instincts and IQ to be a handful for opposing defenders. He likes to have the puck on his stick where he can show off his stickhandling and playmaking abilities. Christy's quick hands allow him to get defenders off balance and can open up good passing lanes that forces goalies to move and open up. He can move through traffic in the neutral zone as he keeps his heads up and has good agility and balance to keep up his speed and puck control. You always have to be aware of where Christy is on the ice as he can put up points in a hurry.

Ryan McGuire (Burlington Eagles) - Loves to keep his feet moving and gets rewarded by getting pucks in stride, allowing him to slip past defenders or beat them wide. Inside the offensive zone he moves very well into open ice, getting pucks in space and allowing him to attack by finding seams to shoot or pass. Playing in traffic doesn't bother McGuire as he is nimble and makes quick cuts and moves to elude a checker. His teammates get rewarded often with his vision and playmaking skills. He will drive a lot of offence for Burlington this year.

The Minor Petes remain the top team in the age group. It's clear it will be a battle all season as indicated by the amount of movement within the rankings.

Players to Watch

Benjamin Bonisteel (Niagara North Stars) - A big goaltender who covers his angles well. If you want to get the puck past Bonisteel, you’ll have to get traffic in front of him because if he can see it, he will stop it. He shows fantastic athleticism for a goaltender who possesses a 6’3" frame. Not only does Bonisteel give his team a chance to win by stopping pucks, his puck handling and communication with his defenders helps his team break out of their end and get on the attack quickly. The Niagara-region native shows no signs of slowing down and should continue to have a big impact in every game he plays in.

William Gourgouvelis (Ajax-Pickering Raiders) - If you’re looking for a mobile defenceman who can distribute the puck, look no further than Gourgouvelis. The shifty left shot defender has already eclipsed his point total from last season in just 13 regular season games. Whether it is breaking pressure in his own zone, making quick decisions on counter attacks or quarterbacking the power play, Gourgouvelis finds a way to contribute to the success of his team in all areas of the ice.
