Coaches and Trainers can apply to be a part of the OHL Gold Cup

To begin preparations for the 2019-2020 Hockey Canada Program of Excellence, the Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA) is accepting applications for Coaches and Trainers interested in the Under-16 Program of Excellence.

The OMHA will have 40 players participate in the 2020 OHL Gold Cup from May 6th – 10th, 2020 at the Activa Sportsplex in Kitchener. Positions available include Head Coach (2), Assistant Coach (4) and Trainers (2).

The OHL Gold Cup is a premiere showcase event featuring the top 16-year-old hockey players in Ontario following their Minor Midget season. This is a pivotal step in Hockey Canada’s Program of Excellence and aims to aid in the development of high-performing athletes, coaches, trainers and officials by providing a wide variety of learning experiences both on and off the ice.

New this year, the OHL Gold Cup will mirror the development camp style implemented at the Hockey Canada U-17 National Development Camp with all players and staff being pooled and divided amongst the 8 competing teams.

The goal of the new format is to provide an opportunity for players and team staff members from across Ontario to come together to learn from playing with and against the top athletes in this age group. The top players as identified at the OHL Gold Cup will attend Hockey Canada’s Under-17 Camp where Hockey Canada staff will select players to represent Canada at the World Under-17 Challenge held annually in November.

All interested applicants are asked to complete the application form and submit on or before November 8th, 2019 at 5:00 PM.
