The Ontario Minor Hockey Association has released the first edition of the Minor Midget and Midget AAA Top 5 Rankings powered by Under Armour for the 2019-2020 regular season. These rankings will be released on a bi-weekly schedule.

With a new season now kicking off, here's where teams stand after the opening weeks of play.

Minor Midget AAA Rankings

The defending champion Red Devils are off to a hot start and look to have carried the momentum over from last season. The Admirals, Express and Jr. Gryphons are all undefeated in their first handful of games and are right on Quinte's tail.

Players to Watch

Andrew LeBlanc (Southern Tier Admirals) - Patience, poise, and a high-end skill set allows LeBlanc to drive a lot of offence from his stick. He is hard to check, firstly because he is always moving his feet and he has great puck control when he makes quick cuts and turns. Secondly, his vision and passing ability are very good. He knows where the puck is going before its on his stick, making quick one-touch plays or he buys time to allow a passing seam to develop. In addition to this, LeBlanc can score by using smart positional play and a quick release.

Donovan McCoy (Quinte Red Devils) - A defenceman who showed he can be relied upon in many situations, allowing him to be a big presence for his team's success. McCoy is a two-way player and who uses his feet to defend and to jump in on the attack. He uses smart positioning, good gaps and smart reads to assist his team in defensive zone. Going forward, he makes consistent crisp passes and gets the puck to his forwards for a quick transition. McCoy possesses a strong point shot and he creates great shooting and passing lanes as moves along the blue-line with a lot of confidence.

Midget AAA Rankings

The Rangers head into the season with another strong group while the Jr. Bulldogs are a perennial contender in this age group. It is too early to tell how the season will shake out but these are teams to keep an eye on.

Players to Watch

Dylan Hudon (Guelph Jr. Gryphons) - Hudon’s compete level is something that separates him from his competition. Although some may say he is undersized, this shifty winger backs down to no one and often comes out of the corners with the puck no matter who he’s against. His willingness to get to the dirty areas, combined with good edges and a high hockey IQ makes Hudon and his linemates a threat to score every time they are on the ice. Look for the Owen Sound Attack prospect to take a big step in his development this season.

Lucas Ceccarelli (Richmond Hill Coyotes) - Speed is the name of the game for Ceccarelli. With one year of Midget under his belt already, look for the second year Coyotes forward to be among the league leaders again after posting an impressive 36 points in 30 regular season games last year. His blazing speed combined with his playmaking ability are sure to give opposition teams trouble all season long.
