The CCM Drill of the Month for January is the Scoop Shot.

Surprise the goalie by perfecting your scoop shot to quickly elevate the puck close to the net.

1. Start the puck on your forehand side.

2. Get the puck up quickly by focusing on your bottom hand and scooping the puck.

3. Stop your stick before it gets higher than the crossbar. Repeat the movements until you are comfortable elevating the puck to the top shelf quickly.

As a skater gets closer to the goalie, shot angles and options start to decrease. The Scoop Shot allows for the shooter to use a quick release to surprise the goalie. Elevating the puck forces a goalie to have a fast reaction and it can be tougher to read or get into proper position when the skater is close.

This drill helps players work on their puck control and hand-eye coordination. Being able to have a variety of shots in your skillset will add to your offensive arsenal and keep opponents guessing. Shooting the puck from different areas on the ice and with different shot types makes you a scoring threat with the puck.
