Teams are starting to separate themselves from the pack and emerge as the teams to beat. Here is the sixth edition of the OMHA Minor Midget and Midget AAA Rankings powered by Under Armour.

Minor Midget AAA Rankings

The top five hold steady after solid weeks. The Rangers and Jr. Colts keep rolling while the Express appear to have snapped out of their mini funk. The North Stars and Jr. Gryphons hold on to the final two spots in the rankings but face some stiff competition from teams chasing them. Another showdown looms next week for the Jr. Colts and Express. Last time Barrie came out on top, can they make it two in a row?

Players to Watch

Cameron Morton (Kingston Jr. Frontenacs) -  Morton is an opposing force on the defensive side. He is a tough defender and forwards will want to avoid going into the corner with him. He likes to play physical and uses the body well to remove the puck from attacking forwards. His head is then on a swivel to find his outlets and move the puck hard and crisp.  Morton will follow up the play well and in the offensive zone, he possess a hard shot.

Owen Bennett (Halton Hurricanes) - A goalie that covers the net well. This is partly because of his size, and mostly because of solid positioning. Bennett remains calm in the pipes for the Hurricanes and can keep any game close by making a big save. His movements are fluid as he follows the puck and doesn't slide out of position. Keeping his rebounds under control benefit him and his team as there are not many second chance opportunities laying around.

The North Stars hit their first bump in the road after a blazing start. A strong two weeks puts the Waxers up a spot at the expense of the Rangers. Can teams continue playing at a torrid pace or will other teams start making their moves?

Players to Watch

Marcus Gillard (Niagara North Stars) - Gillard is a big strong defenceman who loves to be involved in the physical side of the game. The 6’0" plus North Star has been the rock on an SCTA defence core that is giving up less than 1.25 goals a game. Gillard shines on making the first pass out of his zone and making tough plays look simple and routine. He is an underrated player on a very strong Niagara North team. Look for Gillard and the North Stars to continue their defensive dominance within the SCTA.

Cameron Kokeli (York-Simcoe Express) - After a slow start on the season, Kokeli has been an instrumental part in the recent turn around for the Express. Kokeli is a smooth playmaker who seems to always have the puck on every shift. While most players slow down while skating with the puck, Kokeli seems to pick up speed and constantly makes things happen shift in and shift out. What goes unnoticed in his game however, is the vision Kokeli has below the hash marks. Finding a player open or scoring from in tight seems to happen every night. Kokeli is a large part of the recent success the Express are having and he will be relied upon to help continue this winning streak.
