The games are starting to carry a lot more meaning and teams are beginning to make their statements. Here is the fifth edition of the OMHA Minor Midget and Midget AAA Rankings powered by Under Armour.

Minor Midget AAA Rankings

The Rangers snag the top spot in the rankings after a solid two weeks, including a tie with the North Stars. The Jr. Colts see their stock rise after a big win over the Express, who find themselves in a bit of a funk after that loss. How long it takes the Express to snap out of it could have an impact on the next edition of the rankings as well as the standings.

Players to Watch

Ethan Sims (Niagara North Stars) - A forward that is great at anticipating the game. He knows when to pounce on a loose puck or errant passes and then adapts quickly from a defensive position to an offensive attack. Sims has quality play-making abilities, however what truly makes him dangerous is his shot - it is hard, accurate, and doesn't take much time for him to release it. When his team retains pressure in the offensive zone, Sims knows how to slip in and out of soft areas, making him hard to defend and contain. He drives a lot of offence in many different ways and he has become an important and trustworthy option to provide it.

Jack Thompson (Clarington Toros) - A good-sized defenceman with a smooth skating stride and a booming shot from the point. He does not blaze around the ice with speed, but plays a smart positional game that is effective. Really strives in finding open shooting lanes and getting his shot through, especially while on a powerplay. Defensively, Thompson does not get overwhelmed, but is able to read his pressure and make a safe play. He plays with poise and can be trusted in a variety of situations on the ice.

Midget AAA Rankings

It still remains any team's race in the Midget Rankings following another tight two weeks of competition. A pair of undefeated teams sit at the top of the rankings while many great teams stay afloat with their strong play.

Players to Watch

Keelan Froats (Oakville Rangers) - The Oakville forward has been a catalyst for this Rangers team in all three zones. Froats possesses an elite level release and seems to know the right time to shoot versus pass. He is a feisty competitor and is never seen shying away from a battle. Froats has also become a dependable winger in his own zone; blocking shots or making sure pucks get out, Froats has developed consistency in the defensive zone.

Joe Doyle (Peterborough Minor Petes) - The playmaking forward has shown an elite talent in setting up his teammates so far this season. His vision has been something noticed by his teammates and opposition and when skating with the puck, has everyone looking to see who he can find with the puck. Doyle seems to be able to find players who are covered, and place the puck perfectly on their stick. Don’t let his playmaking fool you though, Doyle has no problem finding the back of the net when the opportunity arises and will be leaned upon heavily in the Petes offence this season.
