Association Leadership Workshops Announced for OMHA AGM

The 2017 OMHA Annual General Meeting is less than a month away and we are excited to announce more details of the Association Leadership Workshops and presenters that will be at the event.

Every year, delegates from across the OMHA meet to discuss the past year’s accomplishments, challenges, initiatives and more. During these meetings, amendments to OMHA By-Laws and Regulations for the upcoming season are also addressed.

If you are interested in having your voice heard, register to become a delegate at the AGM.

Workshops at this year’s AGM include:

Registration | Count Everyone In
Presenter: Martha Dickie: Manager- Registration, Ontario Minor Hockey Association

Communication between an association and its members is key in ensuring a smooth registration process. This seminar will answer some of the most frequently asked questions and cover a number of different registration topics. All players and association are involved in registration and this is a seminar that will help ensure complete compliance of registration data.

Hockey Development | Implementing Cross-Ice Programming
Presenter: Kevin Hamilton - Manager, Hockey Development, Ontario Minor Hockey Association

Following the announcement of the Hockey Canada mandate for cross-ice/half-ice hockey for players at the Initiation level, this seminar will explain what the rationale for the decision, and how this will impact programming moving forward. The OMHA continues to work closely with our associations to deliver resources and best practices for coaches and administrators to create the best possible programing at this critical entry point in the player development pathway.

Hockey Development | Growing the Game at the Association Level
Presenters: Ryan Hurley- Manager, Hockey Canada Regional Centre – Ontario, Scott Carlow – Coordinator, Development, Ontario Hockey Federation

How can local minor hockey associations attract new members to the game?  Learn about available programs from Hockey Canada and how to leverage programs and best practices for growing the game.  Share your association’s innovative approaches to growing the game and attracting new participants.

Risk Management | Local MHA Responsibilities
Presenter: Bill Hutton – Risk Management Officer, Ontario Minor Hockey Association

This presentation will delve into the responsibilities of an association during a conflict and a review how to deal with various issues that may arise throughout the year. It will review the OMHA Code of Policies and Procedures, including the responsibility for Local Associations to ensure Policies and Procedures are in place to address complaints.

Risk Management | Cyber Bullying
Presenter: Bill Hutton – Risk Management Officer, Ontario Minor Hockey Association

Using online tools are a great way for associations to communicate with their membership but unfortunately there can also be inappropriate content shared online. This seminar includes a presentation from the OPP Sexual Exploitation Unit responding to serious major infractions occurring in minor hockey concerning Cyber Bullying and Social Media.

Head Trainer Program
Presenter: Tony Caravaggio - Chair of OMHA Trainers Program

The Head Trainer Program focuses on this role in your Association, and is designed to provide leadership and support for team trainers in the Local Association.

An extension of this support is the ACTION clinic, which is designed to supplement online learning for trainers. Participants at the seminar will also be encouraged to share best practices and their experiences.
