A group of players from Cobourg will enjoy another year of hockey thanks to the Dreams Come True program.

Funded through the Hockey Canada Foundation, the Dreams Come True program works with other organizations to provide financial assistance to lower income families to enter or stay in the sport of hockey. The program started in 2007 and has since seen roughly 900 players participate all across Canada.

Dreams Come True provides players with a full set of equipment to keep and also covers registration fees for the upcoming season. 30 players aged six-to-10 from the Cobourg area will take part in the session over May 13 and 14. Beginning with Floorball activities and moving to on-ice games the next day, the group will also receive tickets to an RBC Cup game happening that same weekend at the Coburg Community Centre.

There are two teams from Ontario who have a shot of qualifying for the final round robin, joining the host Cobourg Cougars. One of the Georgetown Raiders and Trenton Golden Hawks will be a part of this great event that showcases exciting hockey. Players in this tournament have gone on to star in the OHL, NCAA, U SPORTS and the NHL. There are many OMHA grads still battling in the Ontario Junior Hockey League bracket.

The RBC Cup is the culmination of the Junior A season and crowns the best team in Canada. 132 Junior A teams began in the tournament from 10 leagues from coast to coast.

The last three teams from Ontario to participate in the RBC Cup were the Wellington Dukes (2011), Stoufville Spirit (2012) and Golden Hawks (2016). Edmonton Oilers forward and Ajax-Pickering Raiders grad Drake Caggiula was a member of that Spirit group.

Don’t miss out on attending the RBC Cup right in the backyard of the OMHA. This is the best of the best in Junior A hockey and is a great event for the summer. Tickets are available now and more information can be found here.
