Keep an eye on these teams over the next few weeks

Many Playdowns brackets are kicking off their quarterfinal matchups this week. Teams have battled through the preliminary rounds to keep their #RedHats journeys alive and it will only get tougher from here. Here are some OMHA teams from across the province that continue to catch the attention of many and are just some of our CCM #MadeOfHockey Teams to Watch in Playdowns.

Novice Central AA – Newmarket Redmen

The Redmen finished the season with as many wins as losses and battled through the first round of Playdowns with the rival Markham Waxers. The series was pushed to the brink and the Redmen punched their ticket to the quarterfinals with a Game 6 victory. They have the ability to keep games very close and can’t be counted out.

Atom CC – Wasaga Beach Stars

The Stars are a disciplined team that doesn’t take many penalties which keeps them in a lot of games. They’ve shown the ability to light the lamp and if they can get hot it can be tough to stop them. Wasaga Beach seems to have stepped on the gas at the right point of the season and could ride this momentum to the next round of Playdowns.

Minor Peewee AE1-2 – Whitchurch-Stoufville Clippers

The Clippers ended the regular season tying four games in a row before winning the deciding game in the preliminary round. They now face the Barrie Jr. Colts, the one team that finished above them in the standings and a group they never beat all year. Winning this round of Playdowns could be exactly what the Clippers need to make it all the way.

Bantam AE1 – Pickering Panthers

This group of Panthers never gives up. Down two games to none in their preliminary matchup, Pickering rattled of three straight victories to move on to a matchup with the rival Whitby Wildcats. They did not have the strongest regular season but seemed to have flipped the switch at the right time. This team is proof that that anything can happen when Playdowns roll around.

Bantam A – Centre Wellington Fusion

One thing about the Fusion is that they keep every game close. All of the preliminary Playdowns matchups were one-goal games and the team overcame a series deficit to advance. The Fusion are looking to translate their strong regular season into Playdowns success. The only team that was better than them during the year were the Halton Hills Thunder who they now face in the quarterfinals.
